No, you do not need to be a corporation insurance agency . You can start as a sole owner or partnership. However, an insurance agency should be a corporation or LLC to avoid liability of the owner(s).
After you obtain your state insurance agent license, you will need to select the structure as discussed above.

Then, if you will hire any insurance related employees such as secretaries and or sales persons, you will need a federal tax ID number and a state employer number.
